Angel Rose Artist Collective – Additional 2023-2024 Season Auditions/Interviews

Angel Rose Artist Collective (ARAC) is seeking non-union actors, singers, stage managers, and designers for a World Premier production and staged readings in early 2024. Especially seeking submissions from artists who are BIPOC+, LGBTQIA+, Deaf, Disabled, Spanish-speakers, ASL-users, and New Speakers of Nawat.


IN-PERSON AUDITIONS/INTERVIEWS

Auditions/Interviews will be held on Friday, February 2 & Saturday, February 3 from 7:00 pm-10:00 pm, at Casa Colibri, 3150 16th St NW, Washington DC, 20010. Groups will be seen in 30 minute blocks. Click here to sign up for an audition slot.


VIDEO AUDITIONS/INTERVIEWS

If you are unable to attend these auditions/interviews in person, please submit your audition/interview digitally to contact@AngelRoseArts.org by February 1st


WHAT TO PREPARE (STAGE MANAGERS/DESIGNERS)

Examples of your previous work, including models, props, lighting plots, photographs, prompt books, or any other example that can demonstrate your work. Interviews can be in English, Spanish, or American Sign Language (ASL).


WHAT TO PREPARE (ACTORS)

Any combination of: two contrasting 1-minute traditional tales/stories, monologues, songs (up-tempo, lyrical) of only 16 measures in length. Audition pieces can be in English, Spanish, or American Sign Language.


If you wish to be considered for YEK PEYNA GUXGATAN, please prepare a song. Songs can be from the musical theatre canon or of another genre (e.g. traditional/Indigenous, rock & roll, folk, gospel, art song, opera, etc.). If you wish to be considered for NE IWEZILIS IKXISULUNTUK, please prepare a song/tale/story in Nawat.

ACTOR CALLBACKS

Callbacks for LA MADRE AMABLE are Sunday, February 4, from 12pm-3pm. Callbacks for YEK PEYNA GUXGATAN and NE IWEZILIS IKXISULUNTUK are in late February, dependent on actor availability. Callbacks will be virtual.


STAGE MANAGER/DESIGNER FOLLOW-UPS

Follow-ups for all open positions for the 2023-2024 Season will be in late February, dependent on applicant availability. Follow-ups will be virtual.

 

ARAC Main Stage:

YEK PEYNA GUXGATAN/BUENOS DÍAS, EL SALVADOR/GOOD MORNING, EL SALVADOR

Book, Music, & Lyrics by Petrona Xemi Tapepechul, and directed by Melisa Strova-Valencia. This is a Co-Production with T.E.L.A.S. Teatro, and performs at Sitar Arts Center, 1700 Kalorama Rd NW #101, Washington DC 20009. There will be 45 hours of rehearsal.


First Rehearsal: 04/04/24

Rehearsals: Thursdays and Fridays, 6:30pm-9:30pm

Tech Begins: 05/23/24

Opening: 05/28/24Closing: 06/08/24 Seeking 3 versatile actors, with puppetry and music experience,  to play the following roles:

Track 1/ Zalani, Campesine: any age, non-binary, female, or male, transgender or cisgender Track 2/ Abuela, Campesina: late 30s-60s, female, transgender or cisgender Track 3/ Atagat, Ama: early 30s-late 40s, male, transgender or cisgender; experienced with signed languages preferred.


ARAC Second Stage:


LA MADRE AMABLE (A PESAR DE SÍ MISMA) (Translation: The Kind Mother in spite of herself)

Written and Directed by Petrona Xemi Tapepechul. This workshop performs in Washington, DC on February 25, 2024, in celebration of International Commedia dell’Arte Day. This production will have a World Premier in the 2024-2025 Season, and actors in staged reading will be given priority for World Premier production casting. There will be a total of 10 hours of rehearsal.

First Rehearsal: 02/01/24 Performance: 02/25/24

Seeking 6 versatile actors, to play the following roles:

Señora Magdalena (late 40s-60s, female, transgender or cisgender): the wealthiest woman in the New World; Vecchia.

Isabela (late teens-late 20s, female, transgender): Señora Magdalena’s orphan stepdaughter; Innamorata.

Mario (late teens-late 20s, male, transgender): Señora Magdalena’s newest servant, actually the heir to a vast wealth; Innamorato.

Conchita (late 30s-late 40s, female, transgender or cisgender, drag king): Señora Magdalena’s oldest servant, and most mischievous member of her home; Columbina.

Curanderx Paz (late 20s-late 50s, non-binary or female, transgender or cisgender): A New World healer, specializing in natural remedies; Il Dottore.

Anciano Roberto: late 40s-70s, male, transgender or cisgender): The New World’s oldest and riches man. Newly single and ready to mingle; Pantalone.

 

NE IWEZILIS IKXISULUNTUK (Translation: The Fall of Oedipus) Nawat-language Adaptation by Petrona Xemi Tapepechul, from Oedipus The King, by Sophocles. This virtual workshop is a collaboration with Tamachtiluyan Shuchikisa An Ne Nawat, and is produced in celebration of the International Decade of Indigenous Languages. There will be a total of 20 hours of rehearsal.

Seeking 6 actors with experience with the Nawat-language, to play the following roles: Tiupantaqigani Se: a ceremonial singer in Tiutećan. Tiupantaqigani Ume: a ceremonial singer in Tiutećan. Ikxisuluntuk: the King of Tiutećan. Mezti Zihzinaga: the Queen of Tiutećan. Ićgamasateguyu Guxganćaneh: a shepherd from Guxgatan.
