Trans-Indigeniety in the Diaspora

Tran-Indigeniety in the Diaspora

Summer 2019

Nelwat Ishkamewe is presenting an exhibit of visual art by Transgender Indigenous people living in the diaspora.

What does Indigenous mean? Who gets to claim Indigenous?

To us, Indigenous people are not only those with documentation given by a colonial power. Indigenous people include those who have been de-tribalized through colonziation and genocide, as well as those who have been trafficked across the globe.

This exhibit will feature the art of Trans-Indigenous people from around the world, living in the diaspora.

Featuring the visual art of:

Ahanu, Ameirah, Edith, Xemi, and others.
