About the event

Join us for The Solstice King, a captivating adaptation of Sophocles’ Oedipus the King, set on the longest night of the year. In this powerful tale, the city of Tiutećan is shrouded in darkness, cursed by the gods and cut off from its ancestral language, Nawat. The people, desperate for the return of light and their forgotten words, turn to their king, Ikxisuluntuk, who must confront a haunting prophecy that threatens to destroy all he loves.

Blending English and Nawat dialogue, this production celebrates the cultural and linguistic revival of the Nawat language. Set during the winter solstice, the play uses ritualistic dances, haunting chants, and the enduring themes of fate, identity, and heritage to bring this mythic story to life.

Don’t miss this unforgettable journey through prophecy and redemption as we ask: can the return of light bring salvation, or is Ikxisuluntuk’s fate inescapable? Starring Wilmer Xuarez as the Solstice King,…
